TOPKAPI PALACE EXTERIOR GUARD BUILDING

Topkapı Palace Exterior Guard Building was constructed in 19th century. The construction used as Wood Furnace and its affiliate constructions as Hasırcılar Furnace and Aslanhane in Early Ottoman period is located between Hagia Irene and city walls within the garden reached by Bab-ı Humayun. It dates back to the period when the Hagia Irene Church was a military museum.

It is a one-storey masonry wooden frame construction which has the characteristics of 19th century. Its doors and windows, floorings and panel ceiling divisions are wooden. It was used as mass housing for palace employees during the late Ottoman period.

Additional parts were removed within the scope of the restoration works. After the plaster rasps were performed, strengthening works and facade restoration within the bearer system were performed. Roof fortification was performed and non-qualified parts in roof cover, wood door and windows were removed and the damaged parts were replaced with the authentic materials. Indoor planning and environmental planning were performed in accordance with the new function and the restoration was completed. It serves as a restaurant in today’s world.
